In this game, your goal is to make the best five-card hand after one draw. Like flop games, two players must post blind bets and two additional betting rounds will commence - one after each player is dealt five cards and the second after the draw.

5 Card Draw - Basic Play
  1. Blind Bets
  2. Deal - each player is dealt 5 cards
  3. First betting round
  4. Draw - each player may replace up to 5 cards
  5. Second betting round
  6. Showdown

5 Card Draw - Dealer Button

5 card draw tables use a small disc, called the "dealer button", to indicate the dealer of each hand. Viva Macau obviously takes care of dealing the cards, but it is also important to track the dealer because the two players to the left of the dealer are required to bet and the player third to the left is the first to act in the first betting round.

At a new table the first player seated gets the dealer button. At the end of each hand the dealer button moves clockwise to the next player. This ensures that each player has the chance of playing early or late and that every player gets a chance to post the "blind bets".

Single Table Tournaments determine which player receives the dealer button first by dealing each player a single card. The player dealt the highest value card goes first. If two or more players have the same value card then they are ranked according to suit - high to low - spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs).

5 Card Draw - Blind Bets

Five card draw is played with blinds, just like flop games. The player to the immediate left of the dealer must post the small blind and the player to the immediate left of that player posts the big blind.

5 Card Draw - First Betting Round

Each player is dealt five hidden hole cards. The first player after the big blind has the option to fold, call, or raise. Action continues clockwise around the poker table until betting is complete for the round.

5 Card Draw - Second Betting Round

After all players have acted, the players who stay in the hand have a chance to change or improve their hand by discarding up to 5 of their cards and getting the same number of new cards back. They also of course have the option to keep all their cards in their hand.

There is then a second round of betting. This time the player to the immediate left of the dealer is the first to play. All players will be given the option to fold, call, or raise.

5 Card Draw - The Showdown

At the showdown the player with the best five-card hand wins the pot. After the pot is awarded to the best hand, a new game of Five Draw is ready to be played.

5 Card Draw - The Joker

5 Card Draw allows for use of the Joker in the deck. The Joker is partially wild and its use is governed by the following rules:

  1. The players will be alerted as to whether the joker is in use.
  2. The joker may be used only as an ace, or to complete a straight, flush, or straight flush. (This it is not a completely wild card.)
  3. If the joker is used to make a flush, it will be the highest card of the flush not present in the hand.
  4. Five aces is the best possible hand (four aces and joker).
